Naming, Visual Identity, and Creative Direction for Bebop Records – a spot to eat, drink, and savor some quality tunes.
The project’s core idea has always danced around the music realm. We’ve been aiming to create a mature setting for sharing good times, even if just by yourself. Bebop takes its cues from the jazz clubs of the USA, back in the days when music joints were just small bars where musicians converged, but also where a vibrant cultural scene was in full swing. It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to be strolling through 1940s New York City and passing by a club like “Minton’s Playhouse,” for instance, only to stumble upon pianist Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane jamming away. Nights unfolded just like jazz rhythms: offbeat, one-of-a-kind, and utterly unpredictable.
While Bebop Rec. isn’t exclusively a jazz club, the idea here is to tap into that original fervor at its core.
And that’s exactly what we’ve done.
Starting with its name, Bebop, which stands for one of jazz’s most influential currents. The name itself comes from the onomatopoeic sound of hundreds of hammers pounding on metal during the construction of American railroads, creating a “melody” filled with little notes. In the logo, you’ll spot fonts that might seem out of place at first glance, but when you take in the whole picture, you’ll notice a perfect harmony. This extends to the typography with varying weights chosen for crafting text and titles, inspired by iconic posters. Even the textures harken back to old flyers, handed from hand to hand when human contact was more intimate. Bebop is pure inspiration.
The bar and restaurant, currently in the implementation phase, will be nestled in the fourth district of Porto Alegre, Brazil. A place that was once the cradle of industrial workers and has, in recent years, gained a potent cultural influence in the city. Equipped with top-notch facilities and even a music production booth, Bebop Records breathes life and resurrects the essence of music.
