A pastry chef and a professor have unearthed a 1,000-year-old recipe dating back to Ancient Rome. Thus was born “Il dolce di Cicerone”: Troiano, drawing from the writings of Marco Gavio Apicio, reconstructed the recipe for a dessert with almonds, pistachios, pine nuts, citrus and honey. The cost of producing “Il dolce di Cicerone” is significantly higher than the classic tea pastry. So we thought of giving the product a premiumness through the packaging experience. A complex paper work was carried out in collaboration with Grafica Nappa, so that the packaging of “Il dolce di Cicerone” could become a tray. Tray that can accommodate 18 or 12 accommodations, also available in a reduced version of 6 Sweets – with a declination of the main pack. Scattered on the pack are several illustrations in a modern key typical of the iconography of ancient Rome and Formia – the birthplace of “Il dolce di Cicerone”.

The visual part was taken care of by starting with a slight restilyng to the old logotype, and creating a visual language composed of illustrations related to ancient Rome. Busts, horses, columns and other illustrations taken from the related historical period, created specifically for the project, are the protagonists of both internal and external packaging. The color palette, based on pink, black and hot-stamped gold also manage to enhance the project and give it an elegant and contemporary look at the same time. All of this was combined with serif typography regarding the logo and hand writing for the story placed on the back of the packaging.
