To put this work in context, we must first talk about the artist and the project: Jairo Guerrero is a maker of sounds and creator of sensations through music, which has always been the language through which he dialogues. For more than 30 years he has been linked to music in many ways: as a music journalist, creator and director of radio programs, cultural manager, writer, manager of independent record labels, multi-award-winning electronic musician, visual artist, filmmaker, creative publicist, music producer, artist and sound explorer, and member of the Latin Grammy Latin Recording Academy.
His Techxturas Sonoras proposal is the result of the long multidisciplinary journey that Jairo has traveled. It is a tribute to Mexican literature, where the sound of experimental electronic music and the auditory memory of some of the most famous literary protagonists of our country converge, such as Rosario Castellanos, Jaime Sabines, Juan Rulfo, Juan José Arreola, Octavio Paz, Efraín Huerta and others. Each presentation is an ephemeral work, with live mixes, different each time, the result of the alchemy of the texts, the audience, the venue and Jairo himself on that particular day and moment.
In the words of Jairo Guerrero himself, Techxturas Sonoras is part of his DNA and his sound fingerprint.
It is presented in a recital/musical concert format, in which all the music happens live and while it develops, it is accompanied by the projection of visuals that support the musical passages built for each poet in order to give them a better experience and context to the viewer.
A dialogue between the literary memory of Mexico and the experimental electronic sonority.
Jairo Guerrero is a cross-cultural artist, maker of sounds and creator of sensations through music, which has always been his language. For more than 30 years he has been linked to art in different spheres: journalism, radio, short film, advertising, audio production, sound performance, electronic music, poetry… all revolving around music.
-Techxturas Sonoras Vol.1 / Tribute to the literary memory of Mexico- is his latest release.
It is an album that makes tangible this alchemy proposed by Jairo, where the experimental electronic sound and the auditory memory of some of the most famous literary protagonists of our country converge, such as Rosario Castellanos, Juan José Arreola, Efraín Huerta, María Enriqueta Camarillo and others in order to pay homage to literary culture.
It is a fusion that, whether live or now on this record, is faithful to one of its objectives, to build a social fabric through music, generating bridges that unite present generations with the heritage of our past.
Jairo Guerrero debuted this project with a recital in the Zócalo in front of almost 100,000 people in the framework of the Day of the Dead mega-parade in 2016, and since then its form, narrative, and live presentations have evolved, which They turn out to be ephemeral and itinerant works, with music, projections and live mixes, different each time, the result of the alchemy of the texts, the audience, the venue and Jairo himself on that particular day and moment.
“I am excited to announce the arrival of this album where part of my life, my passions, my way of embracing music, my soul and of course my emotions converge.” Jairo Guerrero
Techxturas Sonoras Vol.1 has been edited by the Art-Label -Days Without End- and it is an extremely important album since in it, 6 of the many literary pieces that Jairo intervenes live become palpable; and although the scope of the experience that is lived in concerts and recitals exceeds this album by far, its release is now a tangible connector and one more testimony of this dialogue between literary memory and electronic sonority in which Jairo has been working since So many years ago.
“This album is an emotional and artistic mirror and sonically it is an open field that, from a musical perspective, winks at sounds related to Lo-Fi, DownBeat, Darkwave, Techno and Ambient”. Jairo Guerrero
It is an album that makes this alchemy proposed by Jairo Guerrero tangible, where experimental electronic sound and the auditory memory of some of the most famous literary protagonists of our country come together, such as Rosario Castellanos, Juan José Arreola, Efraín Huerta, María Enriqueta Camarillo. and others to pay homage to literary culture.
It is a fusion that, whether live or now on this album, is faithful to one of its objectives, to build a social fabric through music, generating bridges that unite present generations with the heritage of our past.
Jairo Guerrero, who, like many, misses the value of the physical disc in the streaming era, wanted this disc, -like a book-, to also be a tribute to the mechanism of memory, restoring dignity to the object; for this reason, the disc is also presented in CD format.
Its print is full of design details that evoke the wear of the pages of a book mistreated by the years. It is a recycled cardboard digipack with a crystalline tray. Below the CD with a spiral photo layout, you can see a circle with some writers’ visual collage.
The album has just been released and will compete at the 2024 Latin Grammys.
