Introducing Unaavu, a homegrown cafe built on the idea of bringing the authentic taste of Tamil households to Jodhpur, India.
When it came to designing the logo for Unaavu, we sought to capture the essence of Tamil culture and cuisine. We found inspiration in Kolam patterns, which are intricately designed motifs created using rice flour or colored powders. Kolams hold significant cultural and spiritual significance in South India, as they are believed to invite prosperity and positive energy into the household. By incorporating Kolam patterns into the logo, Unaavu pays homage to this age-old tradition and brings a touch of Tamil heritage to their brand identity.
To further enhance the visual harmony between the motif and the type, we crafted a custom typeface that draws influences from the elegant strokes of the Tamil script. This unique typeface not only adds a distinct character to the brand but also serves as a subtle reminder of the deep-rooted cultural heritage that Unaavu celebrates.
In order to create an authentic and natural feel for the brand, Unaavu opted for a rich earthy color palette. Inspired by the fertile soil and lush greenery of South India, shades of brown and green dominate the brand’s visual identity. These colors evoke a sense of warmth, comfort, and a connection to the land where the flavors of Unaavu originate.
To infuse a burst of vibrancy and spice into the visual identity, Unaavu adopted a vibrant yellow hue reminiscent of the Indian spices that play a pivotal role in Tamil cuisine.
