What top European beach destinations come to your mind first? Spain, Italy, Portugal…
Scheveningen, a town in the Netherlands, is a worthy competition to all of them. The town has an incredible coastline promenade, a long sandy beach, a pier and dozens of iconic sights.
The local economy is longing for an incoming tourist flow, while the industry is still recovering from the fierce downfall of 2020.
The owners of the seaside pier addressed technologies to boost the tourist traffic in Scheveningen – and opened a VR amusement ride. It is only 2 minutes long, but you manage to cover a distance of 5 kilometers enjoying the view of the town and even taking a dive under the water.
For this ride, all the iconic sights of Scheveningen were built in 3D. The North Sea is the pearl of the town. A fantastic underwater world shows the beauty of the sea.
Tech features are integrated to make the ride visually thrilling and smooth:
The cart design adds to the ride performance optimization.
Its telemetry allows experiencing all sorts of special effects: deepwater monster hits or shark bites.
Thanks to a caustic network, the water looks realistic.
The rails are generated only in front of the cart, thus their rendering is easy and smooth.
The spatial audio is a big part of the story.
The ride is rich with Easter Eggs. Can you find all of them?
In 2022 the ride was launched and welcomed its first visitors. Now the VR Ride is the town’s new hotspot. Come to Scheveningen and enjoy it – both in real life and VR.
