Sanō is a traditional sushi and delivery restaurant. The main objective was to bring Japanese culture to the food and environment, creating a different experience than just ”eating sushi”.
Another aim was to mix culture and old-fashioned feel with a touch of modernity, bringing it to our days without being old-fashioned.
During the project process, I was able to immerse myself in oriental culture, mainly Japanese, from music (Edo period) to woodcuts (ukiyo-e, Ukiyo-e, ukiyo-ye or ukiyo-ê (浮世絵, “portraits of the world”, in the literal sense), commonly known as Japanese printmaking, is a genre of woodcut and painting that thrived in Japan between the 17th and 19th centuries. It was initially intended for consumption by the merchant class of the Edo period (1603 – 1867). addressed are female beauty; kabuki theater; sumo wrestlers; historical scenes and popular legends; travel scenes and landscapes; fauna and flora; and pornography), manga and, mainly, nature, so present in the country.
From the beginning, I wanted to escape the cliché of representing a sushi restaurant/delivery with yet another sushi design or some variation of it. My solution was to develop several illustrations, portraying the atmosphere of Japanese culture, mixed with more dynamic colors than those used in traditional Japanese paintings.
The idea was to portray the restaurant in a unique way, something artisanal (like sushi is made) with personality that would become distinctive and interesting.
