Uncle O’s Kitchen is a new and upcoming ristorante based in Dubai, UAE. Inspired by 60s Northern Italy, Uncle O’s offers a variety of typical dishes such as pizza napoletana, focaccia, torta di fromaggio, among others.

For the following project, the client wanted the restaurant to be “a vintage cinematic yet fun and vibrant Northern-Italian summer experience”. This phrase perfectly resembled the visual concept of the project.

Given the client’s information, the graphic concept was heavily inspired by old retro film and Northern Italian aesthetic with a nostalgic summer feel. The chosen color palette (blue, green, orange, and yellow) has been inspired by the iconic shots of orange and peach trees in a summery day. In order to fit the “vintage” feel of the brand, a san-serif typeface, inspired by the 19th century, was used for the logo alongside with other classical type variations. The following fonts used for the branding are: Messapia, Snell Roundhand and Helvetica Neue. The illustrative emblem displays a hand, styled as a cartoon, holding a dough roll in a wooden tray. This would represent that most of the dishes of the restaurant start with a little piece of dough: pizza napoletana, focaccia, babka, olive oil cake, brownies, among others. Moreover, the emblem would represent the branding and the tagline “Made With Amore” as a whole because every dish, every ingredient, every detail is truly made with love. Most of the inspiration used for the visual identity are from Italian-inspired movies such as Claire’s Knee (1970) or Call Me By Your Name (2018).
