Since summer 2020 Luzia Hein is one of the selected designers in Germany who are invited to stamp design competitions. Her draft took first place in the competition on the theme „Vollversammlung des Ökumenischen Rates“ (Assembly of the World Council of Churches) and the stamp has been available in all German Post shops since August 4th .

The design of the stamp takes up the symbol of ecumenism – the boat with the cross as a mast – and strings them together. The bright colors of the boats illustrate the diversity and stand for the assembly as an international event with participants from all continents. In addition to the stamp itself, Luzia Hein designed also two first-day postmarks for Berlin and Bonn, as well as the sheet of ten, which picks up on the colorful design of the stamp.

Luzia Hein has been fascinated by the topic of stamps since childhood, when she discovered her grandfather‘s stamp albums and started her own collection at the age of six. And so one of the first steps at the beginning of your self-employment was the application to the Federal Ministry of Finance to be included in the pool of selected designers who design stamps in Germany. Designing a postage stamp is a challenge due to the small format, but that is precisely the appeal of presenting a message in a visually concise way in a small space. In addition, the stamp is not only aimed at a specific target audience but reaches a large number of people, so it is a design for everyone. Given the wide audience, she can draw attention to issues, communicate with people and educate.
