The brief was to develop a unique statement label to positively disrupt and stand out amongst a very traditional branded category at the premium supermarket price point. A bold and maverick design shrouded in mystery and symbolism that reflects fate, travel, journey and the adventure of the wandering Malbec grape and its South American home.
Originating in Cahors, on the southwestern part of France, the grape drifted oceans, traversed mountains and roamed valleys to deeply established itself in Argentina, where it flourished and found a new potential of producing wines of great complexity and richness.
Inspired by the nature of the journey and reflecting the rich bold wines produced in the region, the enigmatic design incorporates iconography of rolling dice, poker chips, playing cards, anchors and swallows depicting mystery, fate and chance. Elements that are all symbolic of Malbec’s voyage of boldly taking a chance and finding luck. Individual in style and breaking with tradition, the striking contemporary design is printed directly onto the bottle with a combination of two metallic inks containing precious metals and real gold, adding luxurious texture and depth.
The Wanderer is the perfect wine for those with an adventurous spirit and a curiosity to explore. Uniquely made with grapes ripened for longer in the sun-soaked San Juan Valley resulting in a bold, rich, and a much smoother red wine. The Wanderer Malbec is rich and full bodied, with layers of velvety black fruits, hints of spice and smooth oak flavours.
This wine is aimed to those who enjoy exciting wine journeys, are inspired and who constantly seek and therefore find the most rewarding, flavoursome wines. Perfect for gifting, serving with friends and definitely one to put on display.
Designed by Miguel de Almeida Design for Cheltenham-based distributor and brand creator Off-Piste Wines, who work closely with some of the world’s best producers. The Wanderer has already seen great success with immediate listings in some main UK retailers coming on board shortly this year. Also further listings throughout Europe with more global listings to follow.
Working with fire food, modern-day wanderers, and unconventional food influencers on Instagram with hundreds of thousands of likeminded followers, we also used their content as paid advertising on social media to capture our target consumers in a creative way. A bold and enigmatic teaser video launched the wine on Instagram and has also been used as paid advertising on all social media channels.
