Our long history begins around 1920, when our grandparents maintain the few olive trees they inherited from their own ancestors and plant new ones, with passion and love for the Cretan land.

Our grandfather, Nikistratos Kanavas, “Petalas” (horseshoe maker) by profession but also a farmer, along with our grandmother, cultivated with respect these centuries-old trees without using any technological equipment but their hands. Animals have also been an important aid to cultivation, thus keeping the natural chain alive and inspiring us today on how to cultivate olive groves.

The area of ​​Amari (village in Rethymno, Crete), with its rich vegetation, abundant water and the most suitable climatic conditions to produce pure products, has been hosting our olive trees for almost a century, producing the exquisite “Petalas Olive Oil”, of high nutritional value and rich in nutrients.

Just as every tree requires strong roots to thrive and bear excellent fruit, our grandparents endowed us with equally strong “roots” to use our land properly and to produce olive oil of excellent quality from non-irrigated olive groves.

Our olive groves produce oil at high levels of phenol because we pay special attention to every detail from cultivation and harvesting to grinding and packaging.

During the preparation of the fruit and until the harvest, we use as many traditional ways as possible, fully respecting the ecosystem. Thus, we leave animals (sheep and goats) inside in order to eat the unnecessary vegetation while at the same time carrying out natural fertilization on the trees with their manure.

During the harvest and grinding period, we make sure that the appropriate compression temperature conditions are created, taking care not to damage the phenols and all the good components of the oil.
