Basils Farm are a sustainably focused vineyard, winery and cellar door located in the Bellarine Peninsular. In 2022 they are looking to attain the Sustainable Winegrowing of Australia Trust Mark on their packaging and promotional material. To align with this change, they sought a brand refresh to become a bold and competitive brand in the market whilst also expanding their sustainable values across additional areas of their business model.
The process of refreshing the brand began at the logo – moving from the original detailed brandmark to a simple, bold and modern design based on stem and stemless wine glasses. A sans-serif font was chosen to replace the cursive font to strip back the complexity of the old design.
Researching sustainable packaging, I discovered the UK brand FrugalPac released in 2020. Made from 94% recycled paper and a recyclable food grade inner lining; the FrugalPac has a carbon footprint 84% lower than glass bottle alternatives. This design also offers 360 degrees of printing space on the bottles allowing an opportunity for Basils Farm Winery ranges to stand out from their competitors on the shelf in an additional way. The adoption of the FrugalPac into the packaging process of Basils Farm will be a modern and bold expression of their sustainable values to their consumers and the wider market.
Focussing on warm and cool tones found in nature on the Bellarine Peninsular; the bottles are designed to hero bold use of colour and clean typography. The Table Range is bright colour and type only, whilst the Reserve Range is paired with a formal black tone and incorporates the graphical botanical elements of the Basils Farm Branding.
The branding has been carried through to printed and digital media; continuing to clearly express its bold and modern design goals through use of colour, clean typography and the newly designed brand elements.
