Toys is a project based on a collection of 16 prints and a bonus one where they are introduced into our society and exposed to the daily world.
All we have played with toys since we were kids. I’m a big fan of toys and, although don’t play with them anymore. I truly think for keeping an active and fresh creative mind you should think like a kid or, at least, try to look at the world like one. Once introduced into this world of toys I found these definitions which caught my attention: (1) An object for a child to play with, typically a model or miniature replica of something (2) A person or thing is dominated or handled physically or morally by another or by something immaterial. These definitions lighted up the creative spark and I thought why don’t create a fusion between us, human beings, and toys. Why don’t place them into our society and find ourselves hidden behind them? When we were little ones wanted to be that doll or soldier. I wanted to show that everyone somehow is a toy. We are dominated or handled by something but, of course, everything is treated from a funny and acid perspective!
The creative process always starts with an idea. This time was the turn for the toys and our daily world. I have tried either remembering, researching toys that could inspire and give me an idea to work with, or backwards, finding some stage or idea where I can place a toy to complete the meaning of the artwork. During this project, I have spent a lot of time thinking and researching and I have mainly worked straight forward on the computer after getting the right idea to show up.
