This is a set of type design with inspiration from Chinese and English language culture by designer Rui Ma. The design combines Hanzi character strokes and English letters in a creative and playful way. Each letter was created with customized shapes from one or more parts of Hanzi strokes in a modern and clean visual system with bright colors.

Inspiration: The inspiration was from combining Chinese and English language culture. At the same time, another inspiration is from clean and modern visual designs, which brought the idea of how to create an alphabet that represents Hanzi in a modern way.

The Process: The first steps were sketches on a digital screen by using a grid system. And the design was created and designed with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

The Applications: Each application visualizes how the type could work together as words and how the Hanzi strokes can be shapes as design elements and patterns. The pattern design was based on the Hanzi strokes that were used for the letters in the words.

The Challenge: Combining different characters could be complicated and confusing sometimes. The challenge of this project is how to combine the Hanzi stroke shapes and English letters in a clear and also creative way. The letters need to be legible first, it is important to compare the design with the regular alphabet to see if it is necessary to add more shapes to the letters.

The Research: The research was based on information about Hanzi character strokes and English alphabet from books and online.
