Santiago Sosa, founder and owner of this brand, worked in a bank for years until his father took him on a trip to Scotland. They went on a whisky-making tour and Santiago fell head-over-heels in love with the process. He came back to Ecuador, quit his job and decided to make whisky his own way, using water from a natural source in his family land. Now, Murco is the first Andean single-malt in the world. Santi came to us with 3 purposes: packaging design, brand identity and Storytelling.
For the brand’s identity and packaging, we wanted to merge the technical aspects of whisky-making with the geographical context in a way that looked elegant and modern. That’s how we created the swirl: a curved line in the shape of the Andean mountain range with a copper texture to replicate the barrels where the whisky is brewed. We worked with Non Studio to bring to life using 3D rendering, giving the label a futuristic touch. We didn’t want to use the conventional traditional illustrations to represent a mountain, instead, we found a conceptual way to represent the movement of the water and honour the mountain shape.
