Boutique brand strategy and design studio Landscape has created the theme and identity for San Francisco Design Week 2021 – Power.
The theme and identity were inspired by the recent societal shifts that have drawn attention to the frameworks that power our world.
Landscape’s Founder and Executive Creative Director Adam Weiss comments: “Power is often associated with negative connotations: pushed on others, closely guarded, reserved for the chosen few, and most importantly, misused. In our minds, and after a year of dramatic change in the world where certain dynamics of power were made visible, painful, and at times inspiring, it felt like the dynamics of power were an important topic to explore. Perhaps even, a source of latent energy, waiting to be redirected or inspired to influence systematic change and social good.
“Better to act and exert and create dialog than not. We were thrilled to see participants in the event (some of our most inspiring clients included) lean into the theme and make it their own, leveraging their own forms of power, or perceptions of power, to stimulate thinking, and foster exposure to new ideas.
“To be totally honest, as the theme began to come to life – we were surprised at just how adaptable and relevant the framing became in relationship to consistent changes shaping our world: political, environmental, social, cultural or otherwise.”
Over the coming months, Landscape will be releasing talks from the festival as part of its ‘Shapes of Power’ series, with the first now live – a conversation with Yuji Sakuma, Design Director at microbial sciences company Seed. The series includes candid conversations with some of the studio’s most inspiring clients and collaborators, and the program is an opportunity to explore how power manifests across a variety of disciplines.
