Deliver branding approach to a real client in a space of two weeks.
Vicky Ollins from St Albans enjoyed in her weekends creating flavoured ice creams which she sold within her father’s bakery since 2017, however she wanted to increase awareness of her craft and be distinct from her father’s bakery, in other words it would be two brands in one location.
The branding and visual identity were crafted to capture the young and crafty essence of her ice creams presented as an exciting, bold, colourful and contemporary brand identity.
The brief outline of the process:
The brief granted the possibility to take the design into any direction, therefore I began with obtaining as much information from Vicky to inspire my creative direction to deliver a unique and appropriate design approach.
A thorough examination was undertaken which consisted of multiple interviews in question of her craft. Each time I was fed with answer I had more questions. Naturally things diverted from talk of her craft to understanding her personality and eventually observing her in action and learning her craft myself.
From the extensive amount of information that I attained, it was Vicky’s persona and her specific approach to her craft that stood out to me. Vicky was bold, fun and young. Her methods were crafty and very hands on, her ice-creams were extraordinary in colour that it made me realise how interesting the texture of an ice cream is when en-fused with vibrant colours, which differed from the muted and soft toned colours others use. I felt only appropriate to capture the essence of what makes her product different from the rest in the brand identity and it directed me to dive into strong direction, to go bold, go colourful, get the wacom tablet out and do something a little crazy.
