The Rescue of Dominican Values Through Music and Design

Rescue Dominican Values
Currently the Dominican Republic is in a diffuse issue of identity. Globalization itself has allowed cultural exchange which has created a universal consciousness, which facilitates interaction between other countries generating great cultural contributions, however we have also given part of our culture , causing traditions, customs and even musical genres to be lost in time.

In order to highlight Dominican art and culture and preserve its authenticity, Nathalie Hazim, Dominican singer-songwriter, seeks to honor the memory and contributions of some of the greatest Dominican composers Billo Frómeta, Moises Zouain, Mario de Jesus, Bullumba Landestoy,Cheo Zorrilla and Pavel Nuñez)) , with songs that have transcended time, but at the same time pay tribute to love in its purest form, in an anthology of Dominican romantic music. In addition to having the arrangements of great Dominican producers such as Alex Mansilla, Jochy Sanchez, Manuel Tejada, Rafael Duran.

Nathalie Hazim, romantic by nature, compiled in 13 songs of the bolero genre a tribute to pink love, famous in the 20th century, and with this record proposal renews jewels of the last century that have always been ours.

Idea:
Generate a visual identity and cover that encompasses the Dominican Republic in its purest state representing its natural resources in a single image preserving an aesthetic of the classic in a modern era.

How did we do it?
We were inspired by different artistic currents to make the cover of this collection album, mainly taking the compositional and typographic structure of European Modernism (Art Nouveau), since in this style nature predominates a lot, this being the spearhead to incorporate the natural resources of the Dominican Republic.

In addition, the use of waves and curves and clothing of the muses of this style defined the look used in our model Nathalie Hazim for the cover photograph, showing a pose inspired by Sandro Botticelli’s “the birth of Venus”, causing a dreamlike sense and at the same time breaking with the static of the images that complement it in the background.

The combination of these elements results in a maximalist cover, an excess of elements in so little space, which reminds us that the Dominican Republic, despite being an island, is home to different biomes and unique flora and fauna on its land.

Resulting in a functional graphic line to display this disc is its different formats, Compact Disc, with inner book, Vinyl, digital stores, In addition to limited edition experience boxes sponsored by local brands.

Results:
For the first time in a music release by this artist the cover art has been praiseworthy and well received since the release of this album, bringing the fascination with the environmental issue that is a worldwide trend.

The complexity of the graphic piece has been the object of admiration given the time it takes for people to digest all the visual elements that are displayed.

Additionally, the support received from Dominican brands and institutions has been quite welcoming.

For the album launch we have the support of:
Banreservas – National bank of the Dominican Republic
Listín Diario – one of the oldest newspapers in the country
Ron BRUGAL – The most important and representative rum of the DR
Ministry of culture – Maximum institution for the exaltation and protection of Dominican culture
