Maura Glynn Creates Audio Book Identity and Campaign

Maura Glynn Creates Audio Book Identity and Campaign

The challenge was to design a visual identity for a fictional* Audible Originals title that stands out and makes some noise. At Audible, designers might not have the full text available to listen to before they create an identity – instead they will have the title, synopsis and a clear idea of the target audience. To replicate this process, my task was to select a fictional audio book title and create the identity for the target market.

Included in the requirements was to design a digital book cover and series of visual assets to promote your title.
Target Audience: Younger families who are listening together and looking to be entertained.
Genre: Fairy Tales/Animal Stories

Synopsis: Mia’s family have just moved from the bustling city to the countryside and Mia finally has the garden she’s always wanted so she can watch all the animals from her window. But there’s one thing she doesn’t like in her new garden… the shed. Every time she goes outside, she hears different noises coming from the shed and she starts to imagine what might be inside.
I wanted to create an identity that really stood out from the mould. It has to live in a sea of tiny squares so it needed to avoid some typical cliches when it comes to book cover design. I had to break away from what was expected while still delivering to the audience something that would get them to tune in.

This brief was all about design craft, so I considered how I could have made the visual identity arresting and convincing so that the audience would want to tune in. In the images submitted you will see how I have created an identity to unlock peoples imagination. My thought process was to incorporate magical, and mythical illustrations (also completed by myself) to catch the eye of any viewer.
I decided to apply these to outdoor advertisement spaces as this is most likely to be visible to families with small children. They were purposely placed in areas where people have time to listen to the books or search for the audio books such as transport hubs or bus stops.
