Brand Identity Design for Scentsory Studio by Sunaina Mehrotra

Scentsory Studio is a boutique perfumery that provides consultation services on creation of fragrances, trades in finished products like eau de toilette, candles, essential oils and also provides gifting solutions for events and personal use with customisable options.

The market segment targeted by the studio includes a B2B model for clients in the business of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, looking at getting advice on creation of fragrances. The studio helps identify need gaps in the industry, market research and brand positioning for all cosmetic and toiletry products. The B2C model targets upper and upper middle class section of Indian Society, primarily metro dwellers. The primary audience is sophisticated with an appetite for luxury and indulgence and seeking exclusivity. They often approach the brand in the need for wedding favours, corporate gifts or to acquire a made-to-order fragrance for themselves.

The brief was to keep in mind the premium quality of the brand and create an identity that could extend across the three brand verticals (consulting, merchandise, collaborations) seamlessly. A brand guide was also created to supplement the identity and provide direction for its usage. Logo application was developed for the brand universe from digital to print, extending from packaging and stationary to social media.

A moodboard was crafted to establish a theme for the brand. Neo-classicalism and Art Deco heavily influenced the theme with Erte’s illustrations at the centre. Erte’s muses brought in elements of glitz, glamour and theatre and helped establish the visual elements- sparkles, swashes, botanicals and molecules. The logotype is an elegant Serif, characterised by thick and thin strokes and ligatures. Swashes have been added to the type to add a dynamic element while representing the spread of fragrance. The color palette is soothing yet sophisticated, giving natural tones a whispery quality. The identity is broken up into the logotype, logo unit and alternate logo, each of which can be used independently and as indicated in the brand book.
