Brand and Packaging Design for New Craft Beer Brand Set in Beautiful Western Sicily

ByVolume – Birpa

CHALLENGESicily is world famous for the quality and diversity of its food, wine and lifestyle. Less so for its beer, something that Birpa aims to change soon. The brand is born as a beer firm under the guidance of founder and head brewer Giovanni, a former sea captain that travelled the whole world but never stopped loving his native island and its rich culture.SOLUTIONWe wanted to capture the deep relationship between his founder and the sea, and identify a design element that could symbolically stand for Sicily. We thought of Birpa as a fictional sea goddess, and designed a statuary head logo with mythological traits. Decorated majolica tiles are a long standing and iconic local craft, so we created a tiled, floor-like pattern for each label where the design and colour scheme are inspired by the distinctive character of each beer. Beer and food is a major feature of the brand communication, so we created an infographic at the back of the label with pairing suggestions focused on traditional recipes and local biodiversity.RESULTBirpa is launching in mid 2018 with a small shop and taproom in Paceco, north-west Sicily, and will be the first local craft beer of the area.”
