Alpha-Bite / A not so nice alphabet

Alpha-Bite is an illustrated alphabet inspired by the shapes, movement, and personality of snakes. Each letter is hand-drawn, transforming coils, scales, patterns, and silhouettes from a variety of species into expressive typographic forms. The project sits between illustration and lettering, turning natural gestures into recognisable characters while keeping a playful, slightly mischievous spirit. It explores how organic, fluid movement can evolve into a functional A–Z system that feels alive, characterful, and intentionally wild.

This alphabet is part of an ongoing collection of custom fonts I’m developing as a personal creative project. After creating People Pleaser — a typeface that focused on softness, warmth, and emotional expression — I wanted to explore a completely different universe. With Alpha-Bite, I leaned into something wilder, more unexpected, and deeply rooted in the natural world. Snakes became the perfect subject: their bodies naturally form shapes, their patterns create rhythm, and their gestures carry an inherent sense of storytelling.

As a lifelong fauna enthusiast, I approached this project as both a design experiment and a study of snakes — their curves, textures, rhythms, symbolism, and the fascinating way their bodies create structure. Every letter became a tiny portrait, celebrating the elegance, intelligence, and strangeness of these often misunderstood creatures.

ALPHA-BITE is a whimsical, bold alphabet crafted with a lot of love for nature. It’s designed to spark curiosity, highlight the beauty of snakes, and bring a touch of wild character into the world of custom type.
