Paco Llopis is a Master Chocolatier. He is constantly searching for innovations in flavours, quality and textures, and is deeply involved in the world of “bean-to-bar” production; that is, producing chocolate from cocoa beans that he himself selects and buys in Colombia and other Latin American countries.

His brand also had a symbol: a ship, embodying the spirit of adventure and representing the long voyage the cocoa pods make to reach his workshop — this being the same route taken by the Spanish explorers when they set sail and first brought them back in the sixteenth century.
We converted this symbol into an origami boat, reproducing the triangular shapes that also appear on the new packaging and in the design on the bars themselves. The presence of this triangle, both in the brand logo and in the packaging, is a graphic element that personalises the brand and was a key factor in the design of the advent calendar.

Advent calendars are a recent arrival in Spain, but they have entered the market in force. Companies see them as another means of reaching their end customers by touching their emotions and offering a pleasant experience. The triangle dominates the entire design of the Utopick calendar, firstly because it is linked to the brand (the little paper boat made of triangles), and secondly because it replicates the shape of a Christmas tree. It comes in a triangular box in which 24 little boxes are arranged. These boxes are also triangular and have golden geometric patterns, turning them into Christmas decorations — which is what they really are, as they are designed to be hung on the tree, so that they will have a longer life than usual and be given a central role during the festive season. Inside, delicious pieces of chocolate, featuring specially designed motifs for the calendar, await the designated day in their little box.
