Objective
A career path in music can be a difficult one. From the hobbyist to the industry professional, those who choose this path have to find a way to showcase their skills and talent. Between performance and distribution, there are many ways that musicians share their passions while also making a living.
Bomp is a live-streaming app built for musicians, producers, and DJs. The objective is to provide a digital platform highlighting musical performance, education, and social networking. While the app’s main function is live-streaming, it also contains features that allow collaboration between users and midi screen sharing capabilities.
Research To help determine the positioning of Bomp, I conducted a competitive analysis to compare it to other music and live streaming apps. User interviews were conducted to understand the goals and frustrations of two user categories: the streamer and the viewer. Affinity mapping was used to collect research findings into themes and discover core needs. These insights helped define two user personas and problem statements, which would serve to focus and direct future design decisions. Several rounds of card sorting were also used to help name and categorize key tasks into an intuitive information architecture.
Wireframes & User Paths
Keeping goals and insights in mind, this user path became the structure of Bomp’s wire-framing process and supported the prototype design decisions.
Navigation
The navigation bar makes it easy for users to revisit streams or discover a range of streamers. Arranged within the user path is the user profile, which includes more opportunity to enjoy specific content.
Launching
An insight found in research showed that streamers needed their launch experience to be simple yet customizable and expressive.
Live Streaming
The viewing experience is an opportunity for educational content and also provides an intimate experience between musicians and fans.
