Student Concept for Radish Festival That Blends Mexican Culture and Creative Carving

Student Concept for Radish Festival That Blends Mexican Culture and Creative Carving

One of the most unique festivals in the world.

Masters carve people, animals, architectural structures, and anything that the imagination of true artists is capable of from giant radish roots.

Sculptures are created by both professional masters and amateurs who grow radishes in their fields. And, of course, one of the main themes of the festival is Christmas scenes, historical buildings, famous cathedrals with numerous architectural details and figures.

This is an old tradition from Mexico. Residents of the city of Oaxaca first began to celebrate this festival in their homeland.

The event itself lasts only a few hours, but attracts a huge number of people.

The festival is held in Moscow at VDNKh.

The program of the festival includes several important competitions, during which the longest, thickest, skinniest and roundest radish is chosen. Interestingly, radishes are grown in state fields, and before the festival, they are distributed to ordinary peasants so that they can realize their wildest creative fantasies in radish carving. All creators of the best radish sculptures receive memorable prizes and awards, after which a grand fireworks display is arranged – the final event of this bright day. Of course, the holiday is accompanied by cheerful music, songs and dances. In addition to radish sculptures, various local sweets are sold at the festival. The main dish of this holiday is bunuelos, deep-fried donuts soaked in syrup. According to tradition, the clay plates on which these donuts are served should be thrown over the shoulder: the more fragments from the plate, the more successful the next year will be. Then the Night of the Radish immediately flows into Christmas Eve and Christmas with bright parades, fireworks and fun, so the holidays in Mexico stretch for weeks.
