South Australian winery ‘Sew & Sew’ recently introduced their newly hand-crafted and small-batch, Blanc De Blancs NV. A sparkling wine dominantly made from Chardonnay grapes. Positioned to sit within the brand’s established Sashiko Series, this range of wines perform as their playful, entry-level brand offering to consumers nation-wide. ‘Sashiko’ meaning “little stabs” is a traditional Japanese form of decorative reinforcement stitching. Each wine varietal within this family wears a unique stitch-work pattern on a vibrantly coloured label; visually depicting the wine’s characteristics.
Given that this new product is a sparkling wine, it needed to appear on-brand but still speak authentically to the sparkling wine segment of the market in order to perform sales-wise. Sparkling wine is a celebratory wine by nature, so cues of grace and elegance are a requirement. The brand’s signature stitch-work was executed in the form of a round gemstone cut; to enhance the product’s opulence and freshness, but to also acknowledge the shimmering nature of the wine. Additionally, the label was finished on silver metalised stock (‘Silverac’ by UPM Raflatac) with a mock gold ink to create a cost-effective foil-look, that will remain resilient and ice-bucket-friendly. Lovingly printed by world-renowned print-house CCL Labels.
A fresh balance between youthful and refined, this sparkling wine product is well positioned at an accessible price bracket but dressed for special occasions and fine dining.
