Secret Omsk is an organisation that runs tours for those who’ve grown tired of wandering around the typical sights featured in guidebooks. This tour is for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the colourful world of the city’s slums and underground scene, discover urban legends, and feel like a true local.
The project explores 13 districts of Omsk where the most interesting non-mainstream spots are located. On the tour, you’ll find out why Omsk has a ‘metro that isn’t actually there’, why no one can leave Omsk, visit places significant for the Siberian punk scene, and hear tales of thieves’ gold and the city’s serial killers. The identity avoids postcard aesthetics. Instead of presenting Omsk as a tourist city, it presents it as hidden, rough, mythologized.
The visual identity of “Secret Omsk” is built around the idea of the city as something that must be discovered rather than simply seen. The project uses a mysterious, urban atmosphere, translating Omsk into a system of signs, routes, fragments, and coded visual cues. Even the logotype containing the very name of the project is encrypted into an almost non-readable system. The design creates a feeling of urban investigation, as if the viewer is uncovering stories buried in the city. The project is about tours for insiders, so the identity incorporates coordinates, grid systems, cartographic marks. The identity behaves like a visual map of urban memory.
