Rutland Square Gin is a boutique craft gin created in Edinburgh (Scotland) with inspiration from the East.
What differentiates Rutland Square Gin from other gin’s, is our unique recipe and story that is built using very modern business principles, whilst keeping tradition in mind, a perfect fusion of both. It is a personal story very rare and unique, a story which begins in India and travels across the globe to Scotland, mixing two cultures in form of our unique and complex sipping gin – Chai spiced Gin!©

The Concept
Rutland Square in Edinburgh, is home to the Indian Consulate. An important building that joins Scotland and India, through collaboration. Borrowing from the visual language of that documents, passport, etc. we created our patented pattern that is hand printed across the bottle setting our visual bottle identity apart from those other gins in the market.

Our marque lion represents both Scotland and India. Lion rampant of Scotland has been incorporated into both the royal arms and royal banners of successive Scottish then British monarchs in order to symbolise Scotland; as can be seen today in the Royal Standard of the United Kingdom.

The State Emblem of India is Lion, it represents power, courage, pride, confidence. The Mauryan symbolism of the lions indicate ‘the power of a universal emperor (chakravarti) who dedicated all his resources to the victory of dharma’.

The Rutland Lion is an important part of our brand that symbolises our Indian and British heritage as the lion is the national animal for both cultures.

The Rutland pattern takes inspiration from Indian and Scottish textiles, making a fusion brand pattern of the two cultures that’s ownable and recognisable.

Our primary palette is made up of grey, foil gold and brown as an accent colour.

Where east meets west- A unique and very exciting packaging design project. Rutland Square Gin Edinburgh based Gin startup who makes worlds first Chai Spiced Gin using fresh oolong white tea leaves from Assam all sustainably sourced.

Client wanted us to create a visual identity which pays homage to their past in India and also reflects their present in Edinburgh. We created a visual idenity like no other inpsired by travel, family and history. Reflecting visuals from passport pattern driven from hologram embaded inside the passport pages, the marque Lion which represents clanship in scotland and also sits on the Ashoka chakara in India.

Rutland Square is a unique project which allowed the creative team to push their bounderis to create somthing whcih is senstive and visuallly attractive. Minimilist approach with maximum impact.
