Brisalto Tradewind 2012
A Coastal Single Malt from the Sound of Mull
On the rugged western edge of Scotland, where the Atlantic presses against dark rock and restless skies, the Isle of Mull stands as a place shaped by wind, tide, and time. It is here, along the narrow waters of the Sound of Mull, that BRISALTO Tradewind 2012 was born — a single malt that carries within it the quiet authority of the sea.
Mull is not a place of spectacle. It is not defined by grand castles or crowded whisky pilgrimages. Instead, it is defined by atmosphere — salt on the air, shifting light across heathered hills, and the constant conversation between land and ocean. The Sound of Mull, a channel separating the island from the Scottish mainland, is a corridor of maritime influence. The wind rarely rests. The humidity never fully retreats. Seasons do not pass dramatically; they erode, shape, and refine.
It is in this environment that BRISALTO Tradewind 2012 matured for fourteen unhurried years.
The Origin of a Coastal Expression
Distilled in 2012 at the fictional yet plausibly rooted Brisalto Sound Distillery, this single malt was conceived with a singular intention: to express maritime maturation without exaggeration. Not peated to extremity. Not overwhelmed by cask dominance. Not engineered for spectacle. Instead, it was designed to reveal how the sea influences whisky in subtle, structural ways.
The barley used for Tradewind 2012 is traditionally malted Scottish barley, selected for balance rather than boldness. Fermentation is extended beyond the industry norm, encouraging the development of fruit-forward esters — green apple, pear skin, faint citrus oils — before distillation begins. Copper pot stills, tall-necked and narrow, refine rather than intensify, preserving clarity while maintaining enough weight to carry texture.
The distillate enters oak with a clean but characterful profile — a spirit prepared not for immediate dominance, but for slow dialogue with wood and climate.
