At the initial stage of visual research, a hypothesis was proposed that all ceramic objects created using 3D printing draw their inspiration from the real world, even if they appear abstract at first glance.
To confirm this hypothesis, extensive material of ceramic objects was collected and analyzed, with corresponding sources of inspiration identified for each piece. As a result of the analysis, all sources of inspiration were classified into four main sections — natural forms, household items, architectural elements, and objects of mass culture.
The layout structure reflects the construction of a 3D printer: the main text is placed at the top like an information block, graphic elements are located in the lower part of the composition, and vertical captions on the sides serve as a framework.
The headers and footers that appear throughout our book are inspired by 3D printing software interfaces, where you might typically see displayed XYZ values and START/STOP buttons. Each coordinate corresponds to a specific element of the book: X represents the chapter number, Y indicates the page numbers, and Z shows the number of graphic elements on the spread.
When working with clay, you may encounter various challenges during the printing process, ranging from technical issues (software freezes or computer errors) to an improperly prepared clay mixture unsuitable for printing. This can disrupt the page layout, causing illustrations to multiply uncontrollably across the spread.
