Ochenta y Siete Cubos: A Journey to the Past to Look Toward the Future

Ochenta y Siete Cubos: A Journey to the Past to Look Toward the Future

Ochenta y Siete Cubos: A journey to the past to look toward the future.

Over a century ago, phylloxera swept through the vineyards of Alto Palancia, silencing the heartbeat of the land and leaving the region’s winemaking heritage on the brink of disappearance. Today, this project revives that legacy, giving voice once again to two native grape varieties Pampolat and Morenillo carefully rescued from the memory of the soil. They stand as a living tribute to the territory, connecting past and present in a gesture of respect, preservation, and hope.

The Alto Palancia region in Castelló was a beacon of viticulture from Roman times through the 19th century, renowned for its distinctive terroir and the dedication of its winegrowers. Today, the Cooperativa de Viver is leading the renaissance of this tradition, not only reviving nearly extinct grape varieties but also reclaiming the cultural identity, history, and pride of the region.

Ochenta y Siete Cubos draws its inspiration from the historic concrete wine presses scattered across the comarca authentic relics of “wine archaeology” that have silently witnessed generations of vintners. These structures, once purely functional, have now become symbols of authenticity, patience, and reverence for tradition.

The wine’s visual identity pure, minimalist, and contemporary leans on the strength of typography and understated design to narrate this story of rediscovery. Every detail, from the materials to the premium finishes, elevates the bottles’ content without embellishment or artifice.

These are two unique wines, crafted in extremely limited quantities, born from research, patience, and the unwavering belief that time, respect, and dedication would restore these lost treasures of Alto Palancia’s viticulture.
