This is a new project for 2021: World’s Postals. Bringing together some of the icons from different countries through illustrations applied on wine bottles. Ideal for gift.
Today’s postal is from New Zealand, with one of the native bird Tūī. Leaving in New Zealand makes you love the nature, taking inspiration from native fauna, this project was born. There so many things that can be featured from New Zealand, that this become a project of postal series from down under, and expanding to other countries, where I’ve got very strong emotional connection.
A little bit about this beautiful bird: “Tūī can be found throughout the three main islands of New Zealand. They are scarce only in drier, largely open, country east of the Southern Alps. They live in native forests, bush reserves, and bush remnants. The Chatham Islands tui is a threatened subspecies of tūī. These attractive birds can often be heard singing there beautiful melodies before they are spotted. You will recognise them by their distinctive white tuft under their throat. They are important pollinators of many native trees and will fly large distances, especially during winter for their favourite foods. They feed mainly on nectar from flowers of native plants such as kōwhai, puriri, rewarewa, kahikatea, pohutukawa, rātā and flax. Occasionally they will eat insects too.” (details from Departments of Conservation)
