Motte is a contemporary carpet gallery based in Dubai; one that intentionally distances itself from the traditional, antiquated aesthetic often associated with the category. Instead of classic motifs, Motte embraces a modern, artistic, and forward-looking approach. The name Motte, meaning ‘hill,’ mirrors the way a handwoven carpet is built in layers, rising softly like gentle elevations.
The brand’s visual identity is defined by the harmonious fusion of elegance and tactile physicality. We grounded the entire system in the fundamental element of the product itself: the thread; the warp and weft that give every carpet its form and character. From this foundation, A visual identity built upon Art Deco motifs and patterns, characterized by geometric sophistication and inherent luxury.
Within this Art Deco language, we focused specifically on curved shapes that possess a liquid, flowing quality. These forms are not used merely as decorative gestures; rather, this fluid geometry becomes a physical translation of the product itself. The curves visually express the way a carpet behaves: the way it drapes, bends, and conforms to the space. In essence, the identity captures the movement of the product rather than only its appearance.
Motte ultimately offers a modern expression of luxury grounded in classic patterns, transforming Art Deco’s otherwise rigid structure into something soft, inviting, and physically authentic experience underfoot.
The color palette was intentionally selected using warm, earthy hues. This choice not only echoes the brand’s core sensibility but also ensures distinct contrast across various platforms. As for the sign, the letter M was reinterpreted along with the logic of warp and weft, creating a contemporary typographic voice that communicates refinement, quality, and an elevated modern luxury. Since the brand required a versatile system across printed materials, packaging, digital and social spaces, the visual identity was built to remain cohesive across every touchpoint.
