The Challenge:
We were called to design a series of parapharmacerutical products by Mastihashop based on the precious and unique mastiha resin. Products with active botanical extracts and natural Chios mastic free of synthetic ingredients. The antimicrobial and reconstructive action of mastic, combines beauty and grooming hygiene. The range includes products relating to the treatment and care of face, body and hair.

The brand identity and packaging should communicate the natural origin of those beauty products and their roots to the tradition of Chios through their active ingredient; Mastic resin.

The Concept:
We needed to approach this project conceptually in a manner that brings its origin and health benefits to the forefront in the entire product range. To achieve this we drew inspiration from nature, the terrain of Chios and agriculture as a means to extract the product. As a protagonist to our concept we decided to pick the mastic tree; the tree that produces the mastic resin.

Additionally, the product should communicate the importance and historical usage of mastic resin in modern greek history. In Chios, mastic resin plays an important role in the area’s gastronomic tradition and home remedies.

The Design:
To serve the above concept we created a series of illustrations in a hand drawn manner to communicate the product’s natural origin. The illustrations depict images from the greek countryside and agriculture, as well as the mastic tree. To reinforce the concept of purity we chose white as a background color. The blue color of the illustrations combines with the white background, not only, to form the distinctly greek color palette, but also synthesize an image that communicates the purity and natural origin of the product. The font used is inspired by the vintage inscriptions and signs found in the greek villages and cities.
