Lumafield is a pioneer in the world of 3D imaging. They recently built the world’s first accessible X-Ray CT scanner for engineers. It’s named Neptune. It allows engineers to see inside objects of any kind without disassembling said object. The machine aims to bring this type of technology in-house for the first time.
We were honored to be invited to build a new design system to help cement their brand’s reputation as a leader among manufacturers of 3D x-ray machinery. A system flush with the same level of innovation that Lumafield has become known for.
We found ourselves quite fortunate to discover early on that the world of 3D offered a wealth of visually iconic material from which we would construct our design system. We leaned heavily into the inherently rich visual landscapes that are synonymous with the look and feel of three dimensional scanning.
Our logo mark brilliantly anchors our future-forward design system. In stunning simplicity, the logo expresses the three-dimensional XYZ axes in 2D. At the same time it creates an arresting crosshairs effect that mirrors the function of the Neptune scanner, zeroing in with rigorous precision.
Throughout our system, we incorporated imagery of 3D object slices. We placed them against a palette of vibrant colors derived from the buoyant hues seen in actual CT scan maps. These colors were a natural choice, gifted to us from the 3D color gods. They replicate the stunning natural beauty that is so emblematic of Neptune’s CT scans.
We selected the Monument Grotesk type family to imbue the entire system with a trusted sense of tech knowledge. Evoking an industrial flair with the artistic.
Lastly, the entire system coalesces around a tagline which is every engineer’s mantra – Look Within. We not only look inside ourselves for answers, but with the Lumafield Neptune we can literally look within objects to understand how they operate.
