Lithography Ricni is the oldest functional lithography workshop in Prague, Czech republic, it is situated right in the historical centre of the city. There is actually just a few other lithography workshops in the whole country, which are still functional. It is a place with a long tradition where many famous czech and foreign painters used to go and still go to create their lithography paintings. It’s no wonder because they master their craft outstandingly and they pass on the craft from generation to generation. They sometimes organize pop-up shop where people can buy limited lithography paintings and organize supportive events for the people. There’s also a strong community behind the workshop and it has very interesting history, it was functional even during the communist era, which wasn’t thriving period for art in the Czech republic in general. It was founded in 1911, last year they were celebrating 110th anniversary, which was accompanied by celebration event and revealing of the logo. They needed a logo design and visual identity which would reflect the values they stand for: craft, quality, timelessness, but it should have bring “fresh air” and avoid clichés, so it could last for another decades. Logo mark is based on a roller and initials of the company, letters L and R using combination of positive and negative space. Whole identity is based on black and white colors to pay homage to the place’s heritage. Whole brand identity system is using simplicity and minimalist clean design.
