Label design for a range of bottled hard seltzers made with all natural, low additive ingredients and high quality small batch spirits. Crafted with care by Behind This Wall in Hackney.
Behind This Wall began as a club night at deceased basement venue Plastic People, where it provided a safe haven for record enthusiasts. Today, it’s a contemporary basement bar in Hackney Central, London. With the current restrictions, BTW has developed a range of bottled drinks (drinks previously served ‘live’ at the bar) for the market: a range of fizzy, lower ABV hard seltzers that could do well and offer an alternative route out of the COVID mess. By bottling the drink, however, they could carbonate the entire recipe and the results were stunning.
Seltzers range from about 4-12% ABV (BTW is at the higher end of the spectrum, obviously!). The calorie count is a lot lower than wine and beer too, so it’s a perfect summer solution. BTW creates their own ‘seltzer’ water using spring water, salts and natural emulsifiers, adding our base cocktail ingredients to create a complex, incomparable refreshment. The hard seltzers quickly vanished and Behind This Wall has just launched a second, further refined batch.
The brief asked for a minimal, ‘japanese-like’ label to launch the new drinks. However, there was way too much text/info so we had to find our own way: a careful typesetting that ‘feels’ minimal while containing all the literature. The labels use Input Mono in one weight only, complemented by wavy lines to set a minimal and playful tone. The one-piece label helps with the concept (and brings production cost to nearly a half). The simple colour codes identify each drink (three were launched, but only two are currently available). The missing bottle is called Strange Brew and is a stout, nitro-charged, spiked cold-brew for… strange days : )
Maarg is a carbonated pink margarita with a hint of jalapeño;
Fo’ Swizzle is a sparkling spiced rum and honey ginger swizzle with added hemp.
Either enjoy chilled and straight from the bottle or, for an ideal serve, pour into a wine glass and garnish with a lemon zest.
