Cattywampus is an Australian brand creating fun and imaginative play spaces for children with beautiful products like teepees, playmats and other accessories for the kids’ room. They create charming safe spaces, hideaways and nooks, which allow kids a world of their own to foster imagination. Their nostalgic appreciation of the simplicity you could enjoy as a child that stems from creativity and imagination, allows them invite you to the imagination’s playground.

Right at the beginning of the pandemic, Cattywampus decided to create face masks to help both young children and their parents face this difficult situation. The packaging design for the face masks had to reflect the creative world of the brand, while matching the simple, minimalist and elegant style of the brand. The goal of this packaging was also to use the amazing powers of play and imagination to assist the parents in helping their children to cope with the new challenges.

The result of this packaging design project is simple, clean and minimalist but also charming and encouraging and it matches the creative and imaginative identity of the brand perfectly. It features an illustration of a little boy who – thanks to the powers of his new superhero mask – is flying among the stars and saving the day. The little window on the front of the packaging shows the colour of the mask inside the pouch, and at the same time creates a colourful cape and a superhero mask for the little Undercover Hero. Right above the little superhero, a “Time to show up by masking up” tagline reflects the important message that the brand wanted to convey. On the back of the pouch there is a space for the little owner of the mask to write down their superhero name to make this little pouch truly special.

This packaging design project can be best summed up with this lovely description on the back of the pouch: “I’m saving the day by wearing this mask! I know times are a little wibbly-wobbly and topsy turvy but I can do my part to make it a wee bit better.”
