NoShrinkFoil Pack is a solution for common six-packs of plastic bottles to avoid the standard shrink foils. Shrink foils are one of the biggest waste elements since it’s made of plastic while 75% of all consumers prefer paper-based packaging over plastic. Brand owners require sustainable packaging alternatives to meet the changing customer needs to sustainable solutions. We focus on highly sustainable packaging solutions and packaging innovations. In 2019 Smurfit Kappa awarded our solution with the #betterplanetpackaging Design Award 2019 for developing “a net-like structure, made from paper, that would secure pallet loads of different shapes and sizes” for replacing shrink foil.

It mostly focuses on rectangular bottles and uses grooves in the bottles to attach the bottles with each other. This packaging solution is primarily focused on rectangular plastic bottles (e.g. Volvic, Lichtenauer, Vitrex).

A tiny change of existing bottle shapes using a smart protrusion and indentation ensures the bottles “grap” each other and hold them in a regular 6-pack-shape. Each bottle has facing protrusions and indentations – by turning the bottle 90° vertically the protrusions face the indentations of the other bottle and vice versa.

No additional shrink foil is needed since kraft board (card board) can be used to fix them in a regular 6-pack-shape. The pressure of the kraft board ensures the bottles stay in a fixed position while being attached to each other. This packaging solution offers many additional advantages: No change in regards of transportation, placement and storage at POS, Use of kraft board makes it possible to use it as a sort of a carrying strap,
When drinking, the protrusions and indentations of the bottles also offer a perfect grip for the consumer, It reduces the amount of plastic waste, It makes the existing packages more sustainable, It also offers new ways for branding (printing on cardboard and kraft board/card board is highly sustainable. The status of the project is currently in concept.
