Forshmak Cafe is a new cool gastronomic place on the map of Kyiv. This is a cafe + shop type format. You can sit, eat and have a glass of fine wine in the cafe section, and you can buy local craft products in the shop section. All the dishes on the menu are inspired by authentic recipes of Odessa cuisine. Odessa is a city in the south of Ukraine, which is located on the Black Sea coast. The closeness of the sea dictates food preferences – here, they mainly eat fish and seafood in various forms. Actually, the name Forshmak is inspired by one of the most popular snacks of Odessa cuisine, which is made from herring, butter, onion, and green apple.

The corporate identity was developed based on the “fish eatery” concept. We manifested style in the form of an underwater world with cute mermaids as the main characters. The lead mermaid (her name is Bella) with a croissant and a glass of prosecco wine – you can see her on the logo. Our characters turned out to be very chatty, which adds a certain Odessa charm to the style. As for the palette, we chose two colors – seawater blue and bright accent yellow (the color of sand and sun). We developed a series of patterns – a sea wave and a pleasant sandy beach. As for fonts, we used several typefaces – Snyder Speed Brush for accents and KyivTypeSans for basic texts.

The interior design was developed by the studio JK Lab. We helped with the cafe’s space decoration; for example, we invited an artist who painted a large mural of the mermaid Bella on the wall. The guest immediately sees her welcoming wink upon entering the cafe.
