Emi Renzi Studio Create Cælestiale Vermouth Dolce with Design and Illustration of Italian Heritage

This project was carried out for Socially Spirited UK, a global spirits sales company. The idea for Vermouth Celestiale was to develop a design and illustration of Italian heritage, with a lot of emphasis on details, that reflects the central concept of the brand and the codes of the aperitifs.

Since 1890 our master distillers have been fortifying the wines of Piedmont with locally sourced botanicals to craft exceptional vermouth. Four generations of family have perfected this sweet balanced style which pays homage to the terroir and the elements that have inspired it. This rosso vermouth has been specifically created for mixing in classic cocktails such as the Manhattan, the Negroni and the Americano. Sipped over ice, it also makes the perfect pre-dinner aperitif.

Tasting notes: A wonderful balance of dried orange peel and Mediterranean herbs set against the body of Italian sweet wine and with a long, earthy finish.

Socially Spirited recommends: Cælestiale Manhattan. Fill a glass with ice and add two measures of American Whiskey (Bourbon for a sweeter style, Rye for a spicier version), one measure of Cælestiale Vermouth and a dash of aromatic bitters. Stir for 30 seconds and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.

Vermouths that have Italian heritage have something special, since the origin of products like these has a lot to do with it.
The most recent historical origin that connects us with the current vermouth is dated and written in 1773, when the Italian doctor Villifranchi published the work Tuscan Enology, Ossia Memoria sopra i vini, where he explains for the first time the production of a liqueur from the mixture of wine with absinthe, which he calls “Absinthiamtum” or “Absinthianumvinum.”

It was then, since the end of the 18th century, that these aromatized wines were known by the name “vermouth”, a name derived from the German “wermut”, a word that means wormwood, which is the main ingredient in the production of drinks such as vermouth and vermouth. absinthe.
