Diana Sultygova Interprets Modernist Heritage Through the Le Corbusier LC 1–19 Collection Exhibition

Le Corbusier. LC 1-19 Collection exhibition

An exhibition dedicated to the iconic LC furniture collection. The exhibits include projects numbered 1 through 19, the most classic examples of functional design by Le Corbusier and his colleagues. Le Corbusier (1887-1965) was a Swiss-French architect, artist and designer of the 20th century, one of the pioneers of modernism and functionalism.

LC is an abbreviation for Le Corbusier, traditionally used to denote iconic furniture pieces created by him, including those created in collaboration with Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret. For example, the famous LC4 chaise longue (Le Corbusier 4), which became a symbol of functional design. Each project was assigned a serial number indicating the model.

The main element of the identity is the typeface, which reflects constructivism and the aesthetics of Corbusier’s era, visually recalls his furniture, and also has a variable set. The font has several typesetting options: a uniformly thin, elegant version, and one with bold strokes. Some letters also have different widths, allowing for the creation of different letter combinations for different purposes.

The exhibition space is designed as follows: the pavilion features wall-mounted displays for each of the collection’s exhibits. For contrast and convenience, the exhibit’s serial number is prominently displayed on the wall next to it.
To present the project and introduce the exhibition, a short introductory video was created, accompanied by musical accompaniment by Le Corbusier’s contemporary, the French superstar of the 1930s, Josephine Baker, with whom, incidentally, the designer was closely acquainted.
