Crave is a brand concept for an all-day café inspired by the adventurous rhythm and outdoor culture of Bend, Oregon. Created as an exploration in how far a hospitality identity could be pushed, the project imagines a fully realized brand world that moves seamlessly from coffee-fueled mornings to post-adventure lunches, casual afternoon hangs, and cocktails after sunset. Rather than designing a logo in isolation, the goal was to build a complete experience—one that feels rooted in place, rich with personality, and flexible enough to thrive across every customer touchpoint.
The concept celebrates Bend’s unique lifestyle through a cast of playful hand-drawn wildlife illustrations. Familiar regional animals are reimagined living the Bend way of life: skiing before work, mountain biking after lunch, paddle boarding the river, climbing local crags, or floating downstream with a drink in hand. These characters bring warmth, humor, and storytelling into the identity while helping the brand avoid predictable mountain-town clichés. Instead of relying on generic peaks, pine trees, or overly rugged tropes, the illustrations create a more memorable and human sense of place.
The visual identity balances nostalgia with freshness. A bold retro-inspired wordmark is paired with expressive script typography to create contrast, energy, and friendliness. The color palette draws from Central Oregon itself—pine forest greens, desert golds, river blues, sun-washed neutrals, and vintage trail-sign tones. Together, these elements create a system that feels timeless, optimistic, and distinctly local.
Brand messaging was developed to reinforce the lifestyle behind the concept. Phrases such as “For the Wild Life,” “Fuel Up, Wind Down,” and “All Day Cafe” position Crave as more than a restaurant—it becomes a social basecamp for locals and visitors alike. A place to start the day, recharge between adventures, or gather after hours.
The identity was extended across menus, packaging, signage, merchandise, environmental graphics, printed collateral, and social media campaigns. Each application was treated as an opportunity to deepen the story and show how cohesive branding can shape perception at every scale.
Crave ultimately became both a fun creative exercise and a strategic case study in how storytelling, regional culture, and strong visual systems can transform a simple café idea into an immersive hospitality brand with real-world potential.
