The Center of Slavic Cultures is a library that organizes entertainment, educational and professional events and specializes in Slavic cultures. The Center hosts both entertainment events: film screenings, musical evenings, exhibitions and so on, as well as professional events. But the main field of activity is entertainment.
The Center is also a space that provides access to a wide selection of classical and modern literature by Slavic authors in the original and translated into other languages.
The identity is based on a combination of ethnic illustrations referring to traditional slavic wooden architecture and font family “Slavic” designed within the framework of the project.
The basis of the font family is the handwritten slavic scripts, its variability of letters — from heavy, square forms to soft, rounded ones. Three font alternatives were developed: regular, heavy and smooth. The Slavic family also has additional glyphs-illustrations — symbolic images that can be used both in large and small sizes.
In communication materials, the Center often needs to use historical photographs of authors, which are not always possible to find in good quality or with an affordable license. To avoid this problem, the design uses rasterization of photos, but consisting of square elements, which allows you to most organically complement the developed system of illustrations. The illustrations, which can either be embedded in a font or work independently in a large size, consist of blocks and refer to the traditional ethnic slavic craft — wooden architecture.
