The new, Makawao, Maui-based Waikulu Distillery came to CF Napa Brand Design to create the packaging, custom glass bottle, and tasting glasses for their new brand of agave spirits.
From Waikulu Distillery: “For centuries, agave tequilana has been used to make one of the most unique distilled spirits in the world. The hearty and robust plant is typically grown in hot and dry desert regions, but like most living things, prefers milder conditions. The climate on Maui is tropical and warm with cool nights and year-round rainfall, perfect for cultivating agave tequilana. Here, our plants grow to exceptional size with extraordinary flavor. Once harvested, we cook the hearts in a masonry oven before stone crushing to extract the complex flavors that give agave spirit its magical character.”
The spirits packaging design needed to feel true to traditional tequila packaging while maintaining an authentic Hawaiian sensibility.
Inspired by the exquisite, handblown glass bottles used by luxury tequila producers, CF Napa Brand Design created a custom glass bottle with a variable pebble texture. A teal gradient was added to the glass bottle, creating a sense of the sundrenched sky meeting the Hawaiian waters when combined with the golden hue of the agave spirit. For Waikulu Distillery’s logo, CF Napa Brand Design drew an agave plant rising over the ocean, a symbol that was foiled in copper on the front label and molded into the sides of the custom glass bottle. The distiller’s signature and a hand-stamped year and batch number added the finishing touches to this premium spirits package.
