ByteBao is a legal firm that specializes in helping foreign companies do business across Asia and the Pacific. They’re a data privacy & cybersecurity consulting firm providing legal and regulatory advice along with operational solutions. They have on-the-ground experience across industries and support their clients to work with confidence and quickly adopt real business solutions, they guide their clients through multi-jurisdictional complex incidents, as well as foundational corporate governance concerning data privacy and cybersecurity.
We were tasked to create a new brand identity for ByteBao. The client wanted a different take on what a law firm should look like, they wanted a design that would have a creative, clean, modern & professional look that projects confidence & expertise. The project deliverables included Visual Identity, Communications & Web design.
The brand name is a combination of 2 words from 2 languages. ‘Byte’ is a unit of data that is eight binary digits long, reputedly coined by German-born American computer scientist Werner Buchholz (b. 1922) at IBM. ‘Bao’ is the mandarin / Chinese word that means to cover / to wrap / to protect. The combination of the 2 words can loosely translate to ‘Protect Data’.
The Byte Bao Logo is an abstract mark. The main element is an abstract ‘B’ that represents the first letters of the brand name. The mark was constructed using 2 parallelograms with base angles 45 degrees & 135 degrees respectively. The parallelograms are based on the input/output symbol used in flowchart diagrams to represent algorithms, workflows, or processes.
The design is inspired by data visualization methods. It’s a combination of a scatter plot & and line graph infused with the brand color palette. The key visual balances dynamism & structure by combining a scatter plot which can sometimes be very dynamic and a line graph that is more structured. The key visual has 4 variation which can be paired with the brand colors palette in 5 ways. The key visual element was intentionally designed to allow usage on multiple dimensions across different applications and scenarios. The KVE can be used on multiple background colors of both the primary & secondary brand colors and works well with all the brand assets combined.
