Byerlee Design recently rebranded the premium jewel in the crown of South Australian winery Barristers Block with their new ‘JP’ range. This flagship duo includes two small-batch, cellar-worthy wines, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Shiraz, both from the cool-climate region of Wrattonbully in South Australia. Matured in French oak for a minimum of 36 months and individually bottle numbered, these wines are made in limited quantities and represent the absolute pinnacle of the winery’s craft, both in the vineyard and in the winery.
Named after the owner’s initials, JP also playfully nods to the legal-inspired language that runs throughout the Barristers Block brand. The label was redesigned to align with the updated brand folio, also created by Byerlee Design, which now stretches across five distinct tiers. As the top tier in the range, JP needed to feel restrained yet elevated – a classic look with fine intricacies that reflect the wine’s quiet confidence.
The design centres around a historic map of the Wrattonbully region, framed within the brand’s iconic sash motif and screen-printed in black ink over a generous copper foil. A small marker discreetly pinpoints the exact location of the estate vineyard, offering a meaningful nod to the wine’s origins and prized terroir.
The result is a label that feels confident, grounded and beautifully resolved, with a layered, tactile finish that reflects the wine’s premium status. Carefully balanced in tone and execution, it lets the materials and detailing speak for themselves – befitting a wine that retails for over $200 per bottle.
