Burma Burma Introduces Pantry Essentials With a Refreshed Approach to Packaging

Burma Burma Introduces Pantry Essentials With a Refreshed Approach to Packaging

In 2021, Burma Burma Restaurant ( India ) set out on a journey to introduce flavors from their kitchen to every home through pantry essentials by presenting Spices and Condiments. Drawn from the Burmese roots of Ankit Gupta ( Co-Founder ) & his mother who were brought up in Myanmar, the essentials act as a gateway into the Burmese lifestyle by showcasing the abundance of condiments, spices & sauces that bring out the true flavors of Burmese Dishes.

At the onset of the ten year celebration of the restaurant, the retail vertical – Burma Burma Shop, introduces fresh offerings extending to quick cook sauces, paste and ready snacks. Chilli Garlic Oil, Maung’s Garlic Paste and Raw Mango flavoured Lotus Stem Chips are the new additions to an existing range that includes Khowsuey Curry Paste, Tea Leaf Salad Dressing, Malar Stir Fry Sauce, Burmese Seasoning Mix & Balachaung. Recipes of each product are guided by Ankit’s Mother who works closely with Chefs to offer a piece of Burma to a Pan Indian Audience. To make home cooked meals fun, easy to cook recipes are provided at the back of the label.

The refreshed design approach undertaken by Rushil Bhatnagar ( Designer ) stands on representing the culture of Burma. The packaging is inspired from a long-lasting artform celebrated by Artisans of Burma called Pan Yun. Noticed in Lacquerware Objects such as salad bowls & serving trays, they are accompanied with intricate line work & ornamentations.
Core illustrated ingredients of each offering takes center stage while bringing attention to nomenclature through an expressive type aided with a Myanmar script. Vibrant colors that are synonymous to Burma are brought to life in each label to establish familiarity that could be developed over time.

With the aim for the products to be as a collectible artefact, we implemented a system within the packaging by embedding core illustrated ingredients at the side of the pack to denote the entire range of essentials.

Presented through a series of art directed images by Assad ( Photographer ) & Ishita Patel ( Stylist ), The culinary re-invention aided with imagery serves as a new reminder of the modern age of home-cooking that brings out chaos of color and character.
