The exhibition “Algorithm of Growth” explores the captivating interplay between mathematics and biology through the concept of Lindenmayer systems (L-systems). Originally developed to simulate plant growth, L-systems unveil the inherent order and beauty of natural processes, offering a framework to understand the patterns and structures that shape our world. This exhibition invites viewers to delve into how mathematical principles inform biological phenomena, inspiring innovative perspectives on growth and evolution.
For this project, a custom typeface was designed to reflect the growth and branching behavior of L-systems. This dynamic font visually embodies the exhibition’s theme, with each letter expanding organically to mirror the natural forms it represents. Acting as both a functional tool and a conceptual statement, the typeface seamlessly integrates with the exhibition’s visual identity.
Beyond the typeface, the design elements of the exhibition extend the metaphor of growth into the spatial experience. The layout incorporates flowing, branching visuals that guide visitors through the narrative, echoing the organic patterns of nature. Interactive displays and diagrams provide an engaging way to visualize the mathematical principles behind biological structures, fostering a deeper understanding of the science being showcased.
The exhibition design also features a dedicated section that highlights the intersection of mathematics and biology. Through a combination of compelling visuals and insightful text, the layout makes scientific concepts accessible and engaging. The overall design harmonizes structured geometry with organic aesthetics, encapsulating the essence of growth and interconnection central to the exhibition’s theme.
