Act of Treason is an Australian Agave spirit — it cannot be marketed as “Tequila” due to geographical protections. To create the spirit 600,000 baby Blue Webber Agave plants (Agave tequilana weber azul) were uprooted and grown on a purpose-built farm and distillery in Eden Lassie, Queensland. The same plant used in the distillation of tequila but grown in Australia.
Australia’s first coastal agave farm and distillery is located in the Whitsundays’ rain shadow known locally as The Dome. The rain and storms that come over the Great Barrier Reef from the Coral Sea are bent around the farm, pushing the rain away. It then returns via the waterways upstream.
The liquid is single estate 100% australian agave spirit. Double copper pot distilled for a softer, smoother spirit. It has a distinct and unique grassy, lime and tropical fruit taste.
The name Act of Treason captures the spirit of the story. Mexican Agave plants were ripped out of the ground and grown in Australia. The hand triumphantly lifting the upside-down Agave celebrates the taken Down Under story. The symbol was hand-crafted, and lino printed to give the brand an earthy and authentic aesthetic.
Top Shelf International CEO Trent Fraser said:
“Act of Treason symbolises the pioneering spirit of a project that will create a new region of agave spirit. The Dry Tropics of north Queensland are the ideal place for that to occur. If some feel that we’re being treasonous, then so be it. The greater crime would be not doing it all.”
