Field of Study – 619 Labs
619 Labs is a new to market producer of high-quality fitness supplement products engineered to help athletes of all stripes advance their health and fitness goals. Beginning with a selection of staples such as whey protein and pre-workout fomula, 619 Labs was seeking to compete on a crowded shelf space and establish themselves as a trustworthy, premium product.
Fitness supplements are some of the noisiest, and least regulated shelf space in the supermarket. Loose FDA standards and a low barrier to entry have created a competitive market with wild claims and equally bombastic design packages. Our goal, and that of 619 Labs, was to present a premium and trustworthy alternative to competitors.
The brand identity system we created was intended to feel orderly and vaguely scientific. The triangle icon and color scheme were derived from chemistry and of course, the food pyramid. If we thought of 6, 1, and 9 as component elements to combine, the triangle was the strongest structure they could form. The periodic table of elements inspired us to choose the bold, monochromatic colors used to differentiate each product.
As fitness is at least half motivation, we chose to supplement messaging with a variety of inspirational quotes from notable individuals. These quotes are sprinkled throughout the site and form the basis of the tamper proof seal on the packaging.
For reduced waste the packaging is recyclable plastic bottling with a shrinkwrap. This allows 619 Labs to manufacture their product in a shared, assembly line environment to minimize some of the high fees associated with custom packaging. Additionally, the shrink wrap provides the requisite tamper proof seal necessary for food products.
